In my last report we were all praying for rain and now it wont stop!. All the rivers have had their moments but over all the fishing has been slower than it should be , a lot of the runs have been small and don't seem to hang around for long. The Tongariro had a 308 cubic metre flood last weekend and has been up and down like a yoyo ever since. Reports from most anglers this week are that good numbers of fresh fish are being caught things are starting to happen.
Waiotaka and Waimarino have been very patchy , I fished the Waimarino two weeks ago and had a ball but went back a few days later and caught two fish all morning, this will improve with the extra water .
The Tauranga Taupo like the others has been very good or very bad ! The upper end from the cliff pool up has been more consistant. For those being willing to walk August is normally the time of year the rivers at the southern end of the Lake start to fire .
The Hinemania has hadsome good runs of fish but the angling pressure has been a joke and the damage to the vegetation is not good , breaking a tree down to get a back cast is just a way of getting around bad angling skills !.
The Waitahanui is still holding good numbers of Browns , the Rainbows do tend to run this river fast so travelling the river is everything , a strong westerly can have more influence on the runs than rain.
So from now on the fishing will only get better , get that fly rod off the rack and get to Taupo and enjoy the best of the season .
Until next time
